The Foundation of Hope is a supportive housing program for women and men who reside in Baltimore City who are willing to commit to a new way of life without the use of drugs. The program’s philosophy is to promote recovery as a process of discovery by providing supportive interventions that uncover issues that act as triggers for addiction. The Foundation of Hope has five (5) houses located in Baltimore City with the capacity to house nineteen (19) women and thirteen (13) men. The program believes that this is a vital component to promote recovery one day at a time.

The Foundation of Hope program has a six (6) month minimum stay, but participants may stay as long as one year. The program operates twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week. The program receives referrals from detoxification facilities, hospitals, churches, treatment programs, and by word of mouth. The program operates on a two-phase system. All participants are referred to Maryland State certified outpatient programs for substance abuse treatment; and are required to participate in a twelve step program.

The first phase is three (3) months that focuses on referrals for:
1. acquiring GED’s where applicable;
2. attending 90 NA/AA meetings in 90 days;
3. parenting classes, HIV education, and relapse prevention;
4. social skills training.
The second phase is also three (3) months with emphasis placed onreferrals for:
1. educational/vocational training;
2. computer skills and job readiness;
3. attending motivational sessions on a variety of topics.

The emphasis of the final goal is drug-free reintegration as a productive member of society.
